Kari Hayden Pendoley is a dynamic leader designing award-winning social impact programs rooted in empathy and equity, that also deliver a return on investment. For more than 20 years, Kari brings profit and purpose together for Fortune 100 companies, Nobel Laureates, Forbes Top 10 Self-Made Women, celebrated social entrepreneurs, and government agencies to advance the work of ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance), DEIB (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging), sustainability, public relations / communications, and more.
Kari leads sustainability teams from start-to-finish to publish ESG reports, conduct materiality studies with c-suites, set supply chain and environmental targets with board members, build cross-department working groups, and adapt programs for international offices/affiliates.
Kari’s deep philanthropy expertise ranges from U.S. public education to international women’s rights. On the nonprofit side she solo fundraised $6M, then scaled the team and the program offerings to yield $110M for the charity in a single year. As a corporate foundation head, she aligned philanthropic and business goals to increase donors (278%) and donations (222%) in under 18-months, ultimately growing the portfolio to $15M in global grants over 7 years.
Kari started her DEIB work through external grantmaking, with 90% of funding under the corporate foundation reaching underserved and Black, Indigenous, Persons of Color (BIPOC) communities. She also designed engagement and inclusion activities to be rooted in anti-racism to deconstruct the power and privilege between the volunteer participants and the community being served. What resulted was a unique service immersion program with strong outcomes in cross-cultural understanding, studied by McKinsey and Northwestern University. It is now being replicated by more than a dozen companies who have contributed $20M in new donations for the instituting nonprofit.
Certified by the National Diversity Council as a DEI professional, Kari serves on national boards leading equity cabinets, sets metrics for DEI external reporting, pilots employee resource groups and engagement programs, and serves as a bridge for anyone or any team dismantling personal bias to move toward collective gains.
